Friends,
On behalf of Jan Sanskriti Manch, I fully support your ongoing struggle against governmental efforts towards turning your esteemed institution into an appendage of corporate driven ‘culture industry’ in the name of ‘private-public’ partnership and ‘self reliance’. Your apprehensions are all valid and there is hardly any doubt about the intention of a government which is pricing out the students from not so well-off backgrounds from the institutions of higher learning. The elitisation, privatization and corporatisation of entire higher education is going in full swing under the UPA-II govt. Earlier governments too had tried hard to do so and if they had only moderate success, it was due to the struggles of the students and academic community at large. I congratulate you for the initial success your struggle has secured in rejection of Hewitt report and constitution of D-O-E. Meanwhile, the student body itself may try to bring out an alternative, pro-people, creative report of its own about the up gradation and revitalization of the FTII. I wish you all success and pledge you all support within our means, which is expected of us.
